Daybed

After replacing Olive’s twin-sized mattress and box springs in her bedroom, I decided to keep and up-cycle the old set by turning them into a daybed rather than get rid of them. Here’s how it turned out:

This was a pretty quick and easy little project. First, I covered the box springs with some awesome gold upholstery fabric that I found on the remnants table at Hancock Fabrics. I decided to give the fabric covering more of a polished and sofa-like look by adding some button detailing:

Then all that was left to do was to drill these four little couch legs that I found in a curbside trash pile onto the frame, using what I learned are called “insert nuts.” :

Lastly, I covered the mattress with a daybed cover from World Market (it’s a little over-sized and frumpy, so I’m working going to work on getting it to shrink up and/or add in some layers of down or something to make the top a little fuller) and then finally accessorized with some throw pillows 🙂 And that was pretty much it!

Here’s one of the daybeds I found on Pinterest that I really like, click-through for more inspiration 🙂
